Stenocereus stellatus Rare Mexican Xoconostle Cactus Cutting
Bring home a true piece of Mexico’s desert heritage! Stenocereus stellatus, commonly known as xoconostle or pitaya de mayo, is a beautiful shrubby cactus native to the states of Puebla and Oaxaca, where it has been cultivated for centuries for its unique fruit and striking appearance.
- Origin: Native to central Mexico, traditionally grown for its edible sour pitaya (xoconostle).
- Growth Habit: Multi-stemmed cactus that forms large clumps, reaching 3–5 meters tall in maturity.
- Stems: Cylindrical, 6–12 cm thick, with 5–8 ribs and short, gray-brown spines.
- Flowers: White to pinkish, opening at night and pollinated by bats.
- Fruit: Round red to purple xoconostle, with tangy, refreshing pulp used in drinks, salsas, and traditional dishes in Mexico.
You will receive a healthy, mature cutting taken from a fruiting-age plant. Mature cuttings are valuable because they can establish roots quickly and are capable of flowering and producing fruit in just a few growing seasons (much faster than starting from seed, which can take 10-15 years).
